After a mission in 1980 to rescue the American hostages in Iran was canceled because of problems helicopter, the US military began developing helicopter components structured and trained to support special operations. When officially activated in October 1981, he was appointed the160th Aviation Battalion. Many of the original staff came from the 101st Airborne Division. Over the next decade, the unit will develop and will be designated 160 Special Operations Aviation Regiment (Airborne), or SOAR, in May 1990. Operation Urgent Fury in 1983 by the current operating worldwide, 160 Soar involved where US special operators that do. Long-distance, low-level penetration of 160 SOAR is a specialized crew.
The 160th SOAR's mission is to infiltrate behind enemy lines or other jurisdictions refuse to post or remove the US or allied personnel of special operations. SOAR helicopter can also be used for recharging, close air support and medical evacuation of personnel for special operations.
Making The Cut

The 160 SOAR recruited between pilot who completed at least one full turn after Flight School. Son is considered desirable for recruits was stolen 1,000 hours, 100 of them using night vision ITU-but not required equipment. Enlisted personnel recruited from among those who have utan maintenance and other necessary support skills in the 160th SOAR. Before being chosen for the 160th SOAR, the pilot attend assessment during the week at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, where the physical, the mental and emotional evaluation data. Physical tests include swimming in the teeth flying with bar.
“The 160th SOAR has the mission of infiltrating behind enemy lines or into other denied territory to insert or extract U.S. or allied special operations personnel.”
Officers and assigned to the 160th SOAR NCMS must first be assigned to the training unit: Green Platoon. Enlisted personnel undergo five weeks of training and personnel following an eight-month value. Among the skills involved CQB with weapons, combat, escape from the hand-to-hand and fled, survival on land and in water, and other skills that are useful for the staff who will fly dangerous missions. Many members of the 160th SOAR will attend school and conditioned air strikes. Since 160 SOAR specializes in flying low and at night, pilots spend a lot of time training their initial sharpened types of skills. By the time they join their operational battalion, they won the right to be called "Night Stalkers."
1st and 2nd Battalions of the 160th SOAR based at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, such as training of the Company, while the 3rd Battalion based at Hunter Field, Georgia. In 2005, a fourth battalion trained at Fort Lewis, Washington. There are also companies that are assigned to the Southern Command and Pacific Command at the time, and the elements are called to work with combat Applications Group (Delta) in the anti-terrorist mission. During the world war against terrorism, SOAR items 160 based in Iraq and Afghanistan.
This is a picture of the organization's 160th SOAR. In fact, the company will be held to fulfill the mission and the operator's operational areas they support. Although the US Navy SEALs have their own helicopter support, 160th SOAR works sometimes too. In fact, 160 SOAR pilots learn to make the operation of an aircraft carrier. Perhaps the most famous operations conducted by the 160th SOAR with SEAL is a May 2011 raid on Osama bin Laden's compound. Reportedly, a special version of the stealth helicopter Black Hawk is used in the attack.
Taking Flight

The 160th SOAR operates three types of helicopters. Perhaps the most familiar to many readers is MH-6 and AH-6 Little Bird. MH-6 is a small helicopter that is used effectively in the battle of Mogadishu and presented in the film Black Hawk Down. MH-6 is a light utility helicopter modified to carry up to six soldiers outboard "bench" along the side. At least some 6 MH seem integrates infrared radar (FLIR) system for night operations and intelligence gathering. MH-6 can be configured to STABO (body) stable fast roping operations. Minimum size for MH-6 allows inserting a small team of operators directly on buildings or other targets. The small size also makes it easy to use by air transport; C-141 can carry six small birds and C-130 can carry three. Within 15 minutes of unloading, ready-mission helicopter.

AH-6J is a leading light version of Little Bird and can be armed with 7.62 miniguns choice, 70mm rocket pods, .50 caliber machine guns, Hellfire missiles, a 30mm cannon or air-air Stinger missiles. An improved version of the MH-6M Little Bird is due to become a standard helicopter attacks in 2015. Many 160 SOAR AH-6 driver ever driver Cobra AH-6 is the ability to use fire to dive to get up close and personal with their target in a hurry.
The 160th SOAR also use three types MH-60 Black Hawk. MH-60K helicopter is operating a special utility that integrates the refueling capability in aviation, survival equipment and sophisticated navigation systems enhanced to allow certain flights in bad weather or other adverse conditions. MH-60L is another version of the utility designed for special operations, while (DAP) MH-60L Direct Action Penetrator This version is designed to provide fire support to the operator or perform attack missions. Weapons with the MH-60L DAP can be installed including a 30mm chain guns and M134D Gatling guns. The latter can be used as a fixed, before firing a weapon or weapons the door. The helicopter can also deploy precision-guided munitions. DAP can do MH60L armed infiltration mission and also can act as armed guards for other helicopter 160 SOAR. Like the other 160 SOAR MH-60S, MH-60L version can operate in all kinds of weather and rough terrain as advanced radar and other navigational aids.
Helicopter heaviest is 160 SOAR MH-47G Chinook, an improved version of the MH-47E. MH-47D designated "bad weather conditions Cockpit" version and is designed for use in all types of weather. The MH-47D variant or E can be used to incorporate a large number of operators on the second landing or hovering, fast roping or parachute insertion. Heavy lift capability also allows the MH-47 to perform the operation sling to provide or remove equipment. The MH-47E combine various mission Enduring redundant avionics. It can also be refueled in the air. Two MH-47 can be equipped with a system of fast rope insertion / extraction, an internal rescue hoist, an external rescue hoist and external cargo hook. Both have a more advanced navigation system and FLIR. The MH-47G will replace the 160 SOAR many birds in the coming years including improved avionics and navigation equipment and hardening better and miniguns and M134 machine guns to provide more weapons M240D.
To assist survival, large SOAR helicopter can be equipped with an active approach-radar missile system Caution (MAWS) coupled with air-cons distributor launched to empty glitter and rockets. High on the wish list of items that will increase the survivability is an acoustic detection system to warn the crew if they are engaged with small arms; best lightweight ballistic protection for personnel and critical components; and better protection of the cockpit.

160 SOAR pilots and crew have sophisticated goggles and night vision systems and high-tech navigation systems. Pilots can navigate precisely their goals in total darkness to nap-of-the-earth. Aircraft they have a survival pack and firepower of their own defense. However, 160 SOAR team is operating in a dangerous situation in the areas controlled by the enemy. Consequently, they must be trained to fight or flee and avoid the birds they have to go down.
In the past, 160th SOAR crew armed with machine guns HK MP5K they brought in the case of thigh Eagle Industrial quick release special, often with a piece of paracord associated with stocks and also attached webbed gear. Just draw a gun and push towards the target will exert shares. Typically, a short 15-round magazines carried in the MP5K. A spare magazine pouch carrying four magazines carried on the opposite thigh. However, 160 SOAR pilots now carry the same weapons as they work with the most operator-M9 pistol and M4 carbine. Often 160 SOAR crew weapons training with Rangers or Special Forces with whom they work and reach a high enough level of competence.
SOCOM operators are trained to perform a variety of missions behind enemy lines and in a dangerous state. However, many times they must be inserted and extracted to perform this mission. Many times, the extraction can be very difficult. That is why the motto of 160 SOAR is "Night Stalkers do not quit."
